Terms of Use
These terms cover your use of scotiacafeacademy.com and the free online barista course (the “course”), offered by Glew White, New Glasgow, NS, Canada. By signing up or using the site you accept them. If you don’t, please don’t use the course.
The course is free
The course costs nothing. We don’t ask for payment details, and signing up doesn’t start a trial or a subscription. If we ever offer something paid, it will be clearly separate, and you would have to choose it yourself.
Who can sign up
You must live in Canada or the United States and be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian’s permission. Use your own name and an email address you control; access links are personal.
What you can do with the lessons
We give you a personal, non-transferable right to watch and use the lessons for your own learning, including on the job. The lessons, text, images and the Scotia Café name belong to us or to people who let us use their work. Please don’t copy, resell, re-upload or publicly share the lessons or your access link. Quoting a short passage with credit is fine.
Safety
Espresso machines run hot water and steam under pressure. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for your equipment, and your employer’s rules at work. The lessons show how we work at our café; you are responsible for practising safely and within your own limits.
No promises we can’t keep
We teach what we know and keep the lessons accurate, but we can’t guarantee you a job, a wage, or a particular result. The course is not an accredited program or a food-safety certification. Food handler training rules vary by province and state; check the ones where you work.
Changes and availability
We may update, reorganize or retire lessons. We may also suspend access for anyone who misuses the course, for example by sharing access links publicly. If we stop offering the course, we will tell people who are signed up by email.
Liability
The course is provided free and “as is.” To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from using it. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can’t be waived, including Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act if you live in Quebec, or the laws of your state.
Privacy
How we handle your information is set out in our privacy policy and cookie policy.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Nova Scotia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in Canada or in the United States, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.
